Earlier this week it was International Women’s Day; a global initiative in celebration of women throughout the world, in all of their diversities.

Observed for more than a century since it began, in its earliest form, in 1911 and now held every year on the 8th March, International Women’s Day raises awareness of the importance of women’s equality in all walks of life and recognises their social, economic, cultural and political achievements, past and present. It is a time for everyone, regardless of gender, to celebrate the progress that women have made towards equality and to remember how much further there is to go.

In support of International Women’s Day 2021, we’d like to shine a light on some of our own, talented Ascot Lloyd female financial advisers, who work hard every day to make a difference to our clients lives, our business, and to inspire other women to strive in financial services.

Helen Richardson - Independent Financial Adviser, Ascot Lloyd

Helen RichardsonHelen Richardson

Helen is among our top independent financial advisers, consistently delivering great outcomes for clients and achieving impeccable levels of client service. Echoing her own words, Helen has always aimed to look after her clients in the same manner she would expect someone to look after her own parents.

Involved in female networking through local lawyers in Leeds, Helen was recently selected to be on a panel for a large national firm of solicitors, demonstrating her broader involvement in the advice sector. Helens involvement in legal matters help her to provide bespoke and tailored financial advice to families and individuals, with an eye on the legalities and to help them become aware of potential financial pitfalls in the future.

Helen has nurtured and encouraged female junior support staff to follow the path to becoming an independent financial adviser. One colleague in particular had a natural rapport with clients and under Helen’s encouragement and guidance went on to pass her exams and become a very successful financial adviser before the age of 25. Another female colleague, who was previously a junior administrative member and has been with us since the age of 17, has flourished and is now a team leader managing a large geographical area of offices within Ascot Lloyd.

It is fantastic to see so many people under Helen’s positive influence embrace opportunities along the way. In a traditionally male-dominated environment, Helen has supported Ascot Lloyd’s goal of championing gender equality and diversity by supporting the development of so many female employees across all aspects of the business.

In her spare time, Helen also helps support cancer charities with her female running group. Last year she completed a half marathon and several other races to raise awareness and funds.

Helen was a finalist twice at the ‘Women in Financial Advice Awards 2020’*, in the categories of ‘Woman of the Year - Investment Advice’ and ‘Woman of the Year - Retirement Planning’.

Marie Dalrymple - Independent Financial Adviser, Ascot Lloyd

Marie DalrympleMarie Dalrymple

Marie noticed the potential of equity release as an area of advice and has worked tirelessly to grow this side of the business. Marie has had to overcome dated preconceptions about equity release and the negative press that has been associated with it, both with clients and internally. Part of her role has been to encourage and guide colleagues to support this field of advice and unlock its potential.

Marie’s approach to nurturing the careers of female independent financial advisers is the same as her approach to client work, she firmly believes that ‘going at their pace’ is critical to ensuring a positive outcome. She believes that the softer skills, which many female advisers excel at, lend themselves well to this area, making it an ideal area for female independent financial advisers to progress in.

Last year, Marie was a finalist at the Women in Financial Advice Awards, in the category of ‘Woman of the Year – Mortgage Advice (Inc Equity Release)’.

Caroline Castle - Independent Financial Adviser, Ascot Lloyd

Caroline CastleCaroline Castle

Caroline has seen a great deal of change throughout her 40-year long financial services career. From being the only woman in the room at an Invesco Financial Services conference, to nurturing the financial advice careers of young women today, Caroline has helped to cultivate and encourage the careers of female advisers also working in the region, by the initiatives she engages with and the example she sets.

Just three years into her career, Caroline achieved all nine papers and became ACII qualified with a specialism in pensions. Caroline became client facing that same year and began to blend her corporate work with her pensions advice. Caroline introduced the idea of pensions clinics where she helps upcoming retirees, but especially women, engage with their pensions, with the ultimate aim of reducing the pensions gap for women that exists within the UK.

When the chartership was launched, Caroline was included in the first ceremony of the award for this status in 2006. Caroline understood the significance in obtaining the qualification for women within a male dominated industry. As a chartered independent financial adviser, Caroline acts as a guiding example for women at Ascot Lloyd.

Caroline was a finalist in the ‘Woman of the Year – Retirement Planning’ category at the Women in Finance Awards 2020.

Helen, Marie and Caroline are just a few of the talented and inspirational women that form part of the Ascot Lloyd team. More than 50% of our staff overall are female and we’re proud to have a strong representation of female talent at senior level, with 50% of our Executive team made up of women and over 60% represented across our wider senior to middle management team.

At Ascot Lloyd, we proudly recognise and celebrate the dedication of all of our independent financial advisers and wider team colleagues, who work hard every day to make a difference to client’s lives. We are especially proud of those who have inspired women to strive in financial services, making it a more diverse industry for our clients and colleagues alike.
