A structured path to your new career

Our programme will equip you with the regulated knowledge, advice skills and commercial acumen, which are the foundations for a successful career as an Ascot Lloyd IFA

  • Part 1

    Gaining industry qualifications

    4 months

  • Part 2

Learning the advice process and commercial skills

    4 months

  • Part 3

    Applying your knowledge

    4 months

Part 1

Before joining Ascot Lloyd, you will have already passed the CII R01 (Financial Services, Regulations and Ethics) exam in Regulated Financial Planning.

Part 1 of the programme will include passing the following exams, alongside several internal accreditations:

  • R02 - Investment Principles and Risk
  • R03 - Personal Taxation
  • R04 - Pensions and Retirement Planning
  • R05 - Financial Protection

Ahead of every R0 exam module, a minimum of one group training day will be held virtually to run through each element of the R0 syllabus. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend weekly drop-in surgeries to address any areas that may require extra attention.

Additionally, you’ll meet regularly with your mentor to learn more about the IFA role, observe client meetings, discuss advice scenarios and apply your accumulated knowledge.

Part 2

During this stage, the end-to-end advice journey is broken down into bite size chunks and explained to you in a variety of face-to-face, remote and digital self-serve learning sessions.

You’ll practice every step of the advice process, including:

  • Performing Client Fact Finds and Presentation meetings
  • Spending time with key support functions such as the Para-planning and Administration teams to understand how to work together effectively
  • Gaining a deeper understanding of the Advice Panel, including the providers and platforms Ascot Lloyd uses

Developing commercial skills is vital, and whilst you’ll be supported with new and existing Client opportunities when you leave the Academy, you’ll also need to be able to forge beneficial relationships with Professional Introducers and understand how to develop your own network to source new clients.

Part 3

Upon completing Part 2 of the programme, you will switch from Associate IFA to IFA, and will begin seeing clients under close supervision:

  • You’ll be appointed line managers and receive strong support from a Regional Development Consultant who will observe client meetings during your early months in the field
  • You’ll continue your studies, taking the CII R06 exam for your full Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning
  • You’ll also attend various Academy training workshops covering topics such as inheritance tax (IHT), complex financial instruments (EIS and VCT) and further development using financial planning tools like cash flow modelling

Upon completion of Part 3, you will then graduate from the programme 12 months from your initial start date as fully qualified Independent Financial Advisers.
