Is it time to Fix your mortgage? Bank of England may not be increasing interest rates just yet, but some lenders fixed rates are increasing.
Leading Business Economist Professor Dominic Swords has made the following comments on the market:
" …. in my mind the fear and fact of government cuts are not so much likely to place us in a double dip but will slow the pace of recovery …"
" … A delayed recovery would put back the Monetary Policy Committee's actions to raise interest rates even in the face of stubbornly high inflation. So, by the end of the year we are likely to see base rate rise to some 1 to 1.5% on that basis.
| | The markets will inevitably judge 2011 to be the year when the economy and interest rates turned a corner. Experience suggests they will anticipate this by increasing longer term rates ahead of any MPC to raise rates. The next quarter will provide further potential triggers to rise their rates such as the confirmation of Q4 GDP growth figures and January retail sales data …"
